Essex Players Results on the 1st PDGA EuroTour
Rick Hoffa and Fernando Brown, Essex DGC players, achieve good results on the inaugural PDGA EuroTour. Fernando Brown, who plays in the Open Division finished the tour in overall 8th position, the highest ranking for a British based player. Rick Hoffa, who plays in the Masters division came 2nd overall, beating the current British BDGA champion Derek Robins who came 3rd. Rick mentioned to me how he would... "like to thank all the players who competed this year for pushing me and keeping me focused, but, a big thanks to my friend and sometime coach Fernando Brown who taught me how to be a better disc golfer".
Full results and standings can be found at the
PDGA EuroTour website.

2006 Essex Spring Fling BDGA NT Tour 2
31 Players made the trip out to the University of Essex for the second stop on the BDGA National Tour. The weather was not spring like in the least and Saturday's play saw, wind, rain, drizzle, hail, sleet and snow, with just a mere glimpse of the sun. Sunday was a lot calmer and sunnier and stayed dry throughout.
Fernando, Jester and Rick took the lead in the Open division after the 1st round with 56's a piece. After the 2nd round Jester took the overnight lead from Fernando with a 2 shot lead. Meanwhile in the Amateur division, Ross had a 1 shot lead on Joseph after the 1st round, but it was Joseph who who took the overnight lead from Ross with a 1 shot lead and Paul 6 shots back in 3rd.
Sunday saw Fernando stretch his lead by 5 strokes from Del and Jester tied for 2nd, Si was in 4th and Bruce and Gwyn had to play off for the last spot in the final, with Gwyn victorious on the 3rd play off hole. Fernando kept the lead throughout the final to take the coveted title of Essex Spring Fling Tournament Champ and the only change in the order after the final was Jester dropping down to 3rd on the final hole, where he was tied for 2nd with Del, but ended up taking an unfortunate double OB 6 and Del grabbing a nice birdy.
In the Amateur division Joseph stretch his lead from Ross by a further 2 strokes giving him a 3 shot lead going it to the final, with Ross in 2nd, Paul in 3rd, Marc in 4th and Richy in 5th. Joseph managed to keep the lead throughout and win the Top Sandbagger award of Amateur Champ and the only change was Marc dropping to 5th and Richy moving up to 4th.
Notable mentions are Fernando's Ace in the first round on hole 13, Mind the Gap, and his fairway Ace on hole 9 in the 3rd round, the first 2 on this hole.

Fernando scooped the Ace pot of £20, shooting an unbelievable, although witnessed, ace on Hole 8, Brown's Birch, his name sake and Fernando originally designed this hole... So from now on we won't allow him to design any new holes.
A great day of DG was had by all on a superb course.
