2005 International Discraft Ace Race
A great fun day and event, one disc and one shot at the basket, only metal hits and aces count. A good turnout but sadly only one ace. We played an altered shorter version of the short 9 course to allow for ace runs on all the holes and played 4 rounds on the short 9. Congratulations go to Richy Connell from Croyden for winning the event with the only ace on hole 9.Posted 12Jan06
CUDGE Players invade Essex
"Every year since 2003 a growing population of individuals get together to compete in their very own disc golf tournament, named CUDGE. CUDGE stands for Children United for Disc Golf Everywhere, and while raising money for a children's charity is one of the priorities, this often gets overlooked by the total competitive spirit and kudos of winning the event itself. 2003 saw a spirited fight by Paul "Shmeegle" Rasmussen who took the crown in Uppingham, while last years scorcher in Brighton saw Eddie Young run away with the title having practiced on the course a controversial number of times.

This years event was deemed a fairer venue, as none of the players were familiar with the course, and the winner would surely be crowned the groups "true" champion. Based over 2 rounds of 18, and teeing off at 2pm, the cream slowly began to rise to the top with the eventual winner Ashley Freeman moving 2 shots ahead of the pack after 18. It was a nail biting finish which was only decided on the final hole. By halving the last hole and winning by just one shot, Ashley managed to steal the crown from last years winner and rightly be awarded the title of this years champ. Both the Golden Jacket and the prestigious trophy Sir Cudgealot are back where they belong in London, residing safely in Clapham.Posted 04Aug05

Course Update
Last weekend saw a concerted effort from the club, namely myself, Fernando, April, Rick and Jim, to put in place some tee pads for the new holes and to upgrade some tee pads from existing holes. The course now has tee pads for all holes, which will make it easier for everyone playing and finding the new holes. Hole 2 now has 6 slabs in place and the main lake hole now has 8 slabs, these larger tee pads have been put in place for the safety of the players and ease of playing.

We have also made a start on spraying up the pads with the hole number and the distance of the holes, these will be finished on the next work party day at the beginning of June. You will also notice that the baskets have been numbered and the main pole has been sprayed with bright orange paint to make the visibility of the basket clearer from the tee areas.

The club will continue to improve the course over the coming months running up to the British Open, but we would like to ask all players to flatten as many nettles as they can when playing, there are two main holes that they seem to be growing well, hole 7 and hole 11, please spend 5 minutes stamping these evil weeds out to make life easier for all players. If anyone would like to help out on course improvements please contact us for more details. Posted 29Apr05
New Course for 2005
Due to the University of Essex's continued building projects, 7 baskets have been moved to avoid the building sites. Some old holes have been re−instated and some new ones implemented. The course now starts on what was Hole 3 and finishes by the lake near the library. Feedback from local players suggest that the changes are welcome and the course still offers a challenging disc golf experience. To view a temporary map of the course please follow the link at the top to the course. Pictures and lengths of the new holes will follow in due course, along with a permanent map.

Unfortunately we have temporarily lost the short 9 pitch'n'putt course, although three baskets have been left by the sports centre for practising on or creating your own short course on. One of the baskets has been used for an Around Nine putting game, the Around Nine works on having nine positions spiralling out from the basket, the idea is that you have one attempt at putting from each position, if you manage to putt then you gain that positions points, the winner of the game is the player with the most points. New Course for 2005
Due to continued expansion at the University of Essex, the course has to be redesigned for 2005 to avoid any of the building works. The new course will stay in place until late 2006 when we can put most of the old course back in place, although the new design brings back some old favourites, it adds some new challenges, we're sure you'll like it and will update you on the progress of the changes as and when. Essex Ice Bowl 2005 Results
18 players turned out for the Essex Ice Bowl on 9th January 2005 in the sunshine at the University of Essex.

The event was split into 2 separate competitions. In the morning we all played a straight round of 18 and in the afternoon we did 2 rounds on the short 9. There was 2 CTP's and had a longest putt competition in the morning.

The morning round was won jointly by Ivan Bromage and Fernando Brown, both shooting 59. The longest putt was won by Ross Poole and the CTP was won by Tim Herring.

The afternoon rounds were won by Tim Herring who shot 47. The CTP was won by Jim Hollingsworth.

The Ice Bowl was in aid of a children's home for children with disabilities in Colchester who offer respite care to families in Essex. We will be donating sports equipment paid for by the event and the sponsorship received by the players, the total we raised is £360.

Essex Disc Golf Club would like to thank all the players who made it out to the course for the event especially Mike Ocon and Marcel who came over from Utrecht in Holland. Mike and Marcel attended the Amsterdam Ice Bowl on the day before making the Essex Ice Bowl, Mike donated a pair of clogs to the Essex Disc Golf Club, 1 clog was signed by some of the players at the Amsterdam event whilst the other clog was signed by the players at our event. Mike has also set 2 records for the course. The Grandmaster record for the course stands at 69, along with the record for wearing clogs during a round. Posted: 24Jan05
